UPDATE: ATF joins investigation on church fire in Cullman County

CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. – A large fire burned this morning at Simcoe Worship Center in Cullman County.  The fire destroyed the children’s building and also caused heavy smoke damage to the sanctuary.

The church is located on Highway 69.  The fire started just before 7 a.m. Local drivers spotted a lot of smoke as they approached the scene and then realized a church was burning as they got closer.

WHNT News 19’s David Kumbroch is on the scene and reports the fire is under control.  Firefighters are now spraying down the charred remains.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has joined the investigation, which is standard for church fires.

Several fire departments help put out the flames.  The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office helped with traffic control.
