HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - What better time to have ice cream delivered than on a day when the temperature is below freezing? Blue Bell Ice Cream is back on store shelves after last year’s concerns surrounding listeria.
WHNT News 19 was at Kroger on University Drive in Huntsville as the truck arrived with the Rocket City’s first Blue Bell shipment. This means the return of such favorite flavors as Dutch Chocolate, Cookies & Cream and The Great Divide. Blue Bell also delivered a new flavor called Butter Crunch.
This is the first batch of Blue Bell Ice Cream to hit store shelves since the treat was linked to 10 listeria cases, including three deaths in Kansas, in April 2015. The company voluntarily recalled the ice cream as a result.
Blue Bell has faced strict regulations during the ensuing cleanup and decontamination. One U.S. official has reportedly confirmed the Department of Justice is investigating how Blue Bell handled the contamination issue.
The company has been reintroducing its product since last August. Huntsville isn't the only city in the Tennessee Valley getting Blue Bell back.
Other cities receiving shipments include:
- Muscle Shoals
- Fort Payne
Blue Bell officials say they will continue delivering to the southeastern states over the next two weeks. The company is also welcoming its employees back to work who were on temporary leave following the listeria incidents.
