GADSDEN, Ala. (WHNT) — A Boaz couple has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse based on “severe medical neglect,” the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department said today.

Misty Dawn Peppers, 33, and Charles Calvin Peppers, 37, both of Boaz, were arrested and charged with one count of aggravated child abuse, investigators said.

The sheriff’s department said the charges stem from the severe medical neglect of a 5-year-old.  The department said its three-month investigation discovered the neglect had been ongoing for more than two years.

The couple is currently in the Etowah County Detention Center. They each have a $25,000 bond.
