BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) — The Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce is doing its part to provide coats to families in need.

Marshall County has been very generous. Inside the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce is a table with layers and mounds of coats piled on it.

The  coats came from donations. Some even had the tags still on them.

The chamber has been collecting these coats for weeks and they’re free to go to families who need them. “Anyone in need of a coat is welcome to come,” Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce president Peggie Haney says, “Come to the Boaz Chamber of Commerce and we’ll just let you look and pick out something. We’ve got a lot of new coats, we’ve got a lot of gently used coats and they’ve all been cleaned.”

Families are coming from Marshall County and surrounding counties and leaving with their pick of coats for their kids.

“Some of the stories, it will kind of touch your heart when you realize that there are people out there whose children don’t have coats,” Haney says.

There are coats for kids and some for adults.

Coats can be picked up during normal business hours at the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce. “We’ll be on holiday hours next week. We’ll be here Monday Tuesday and Wednesday,” Haney says.

The office is typically open from 8 a.m.  until 5 p.m. The drive is set to run through Christmas. If there are still coats left after Christmas, the chamber may keep the drive going through the New Year holiday and whatever is left over will be donated to DHR.
