Inmate stabbed to death in Alabama maximum security prison

BESSEMER, Ala. (WHNT) – The Alabama Department of Corrections say they are investigating a deadly stabbing at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer.

They say the stabbing happened just before 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday during an altercation between three inmates in a cell block.

Marreo Mitchell, 35, was stabbed to death.

Corrections officials say they don’t know the cause of the fight. Two inmates have been detained as suspects, but their names aren’t being released yet.

Donaldson is a maximum security prison. It holds 1,500 inmates.
