‘Cozy Christmas Mingle’ planned for homeless in the Shoals
FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Junior League of the Shoals has teamed up with the Homeless Care Council or Northwest Alabama to plan a ‘Cozy Christmas Mingle’ for the area’s homeless.
“We expect 50 plus,” said Lyndsey Borden with Junior League of the Shoals. “Any one who is in need is invited.”
They plan to give away new coats, hats, gloved and hot hands, but they need donations to make it a success. Drop off locations include Colbert Pharmacy in Sheffield, United Way of Northwest Alabama, Room in the Inn in downtown Florence and Faith Church in Florence.
Local businesses can also help contribute desserts to share, it is a holiday party after all. If you want to donate items, they are looking for the following:
- New coats
- New socks
- New toboggans
- New Gloves
- Packs of Hot Hands
- Small dessert plates
“We’re going to mingle with them and spend some time with them getting to know them, we want to make them feel welcome during the holiday,” Borden added.
The mingle is also a festive way to keep the homeless of out the cold for a while, and help provide items to keep them safe.
“These donations are important because most of these individuals do not own proper items to keep warm. They risk a multitude of health complications, including frostbite.”
The ‘Cozy Christmas Mingle’ is planned for December 15 from 5:00 – 7:00 in the evening. They will meet at two locations: Cliff Haven Church in Sheffield and First Presbyterian Church in downtown Florence.
The Homeless Care Council will continue to distribute the warming items through the winter. For more information on Junior League of the Shoals, click here.
