Rogersville, Ala. (WHNT) - If you are a believer in numerology, then you probably realize what is happening in the third week of November at Lauderdale County High School. Three major athletic achievements are happening across three different sports.
The Tigers football team is entering the third round of the 3A state playoffs, where Friday night they will face Colbert County for a spot in the quarterfinals. This is the moment some Tigers have been waiting for their entire lives, but one in particular has a little extra on his plate. John Trousdale used the early signing period to ink his baseball future at the University of Alabama.
"I loved it, went on my visit and they have that new stadium so it's hard to pass that up, it's great what they have over there." Not many schools have a baseball player sign a Division 1 scholarship, especially while leading his team in another sport.
All the while, another very unique celebration of athletic achievement is happening inside the gym. The Lady Tigers basketball team opens its season Thursday night looking for its 85th consecutive win. Every time Lauderdale County wins a game, it extends a state record for consecutive victories. The record is a big enough deal in itself, but Tuesday the three players responsible for much of this success signed to play together at UNA.
"We had a bunch of different offers yes, but in the end we wanted to stay together," Emma Wallen said after signing. The Wallen triplets have led Lauderdale County to four straight state championships dating back to their 8th grade season. Some colleges were interested in one or two of them but not necessarily as a package deal. Anybody who has seen the triplets play, knows they are better as three.
We all know there is strength in numbers, and no school is having a stronger athletic week than Lauderdale County. The Tigers have a trilogy of great stories spanning a triad of sports. Maybe if you're rooting for the Tigers, you should read this article thrice. (That last one was just for fun.)
