HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - New renderings show the latest concepts of the CityCentre mixed-use project.

"It's going to have huge impact downtown, going to have a huge impact at the park, going to have a huge impact on the VBC (Von Braun Center), so [the developers] took a quick step back," said Dennis Madsen, manager of Huntsville's long range planning.

P2131BigSpringPark_AerialDevelopers are expected to start moving dirt in November. Madsen hopes it will pick up lost opportunities from downtown patrons.

"We hear all the time, people coming out of events at the VBC, and they say to themselves, 'I would love something to eat or drink,' but they walk out and the first thing they see is the parking deck," said Madsen.

Luckily, he says, Madsen will bring many other entertainment options that will bring patrons in and around Big Spring Park instead of only having the parking garage before them. He says the developers are looking to develop a plaza experience.

"Not only are you going to get the shopping, and hotel, and dining and residential experience but hopefully you get this great public experience as well," said Madsen.

"Lowery Boulevard," Madsen explained, "we anticipate being open sometime next year. Basically it connects Governors [Drive] to [intersect] right into Williams [Avenue]."
