HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - The Richland Golf Center closed its doors for good at the end of September citing rising property rent.

For more than a decade, the golf course and driving range served as a mainstay along the Memorial Parkway north of Huntsville. Owner Charlie Richardson and his family spent the last 14 years trying to make golf accessible to folks in Madison County and beyond.

Now, Richardson will continue to do what he does best. He will teach golf at the Huntsville Country Club.

The club also offered to take on the Richland Golf Center's 250-plus members at a special discounted rate through the end of the year. The processing fee will be waived any current Richland Golf Center member who joins the Huntsville Country Club by the end of 2015.

Huntsville Country Club also recently endured its own turnover. The club's ownership changed hands in July 2014 after some financial struggles.
