Russellville teen in custody after bringing unloaded handgun to school

RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. – A teenager is in police custody after bringing an unloaded handgun to campus Wednesday morning.

Russellville City Schools Superintendent Heath Grimes said a tip lead to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy. They were able to find him before school started and recover the gun.

Russellville Police said the gun was unloaded and no ammunition was found. They say there was no threat made by the student.

The 15-year-old, whose identity is withheld because he is a minor, is charged with possession of a gun on school property, theft of property 2nd and theft of property 3rd. He is being held at the Tennessee Valley Juvenile Detention Center and will likely not return to school.
