ROGERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Are long lines at the county tag office becoming a thing of the past?

To add a level of convenience for taxpayers, the Lauderdale County License Commissioners Office has placed a kiosk 30 minutes from their office in Florence to speed up the process.

Depending on the day of the month you go to the county license commissioner’s office in Florence, you could wait two minutes or 30 minutes. Normally it’s because people procrastinate and wait to the last days of the month to renew their tags.

License Commissioner William Smith took note of that when he came into office.

“We have fundamentally tried to change the way we do business in here, and make it more convenient for taxpayers,” stated Smith.

So to cut down on lines in Florence, Smith has placed a kiosk in Rogersville Town Hall. He said the kiosk provides all the same functions as a clerk.

They are testing the system through the end of the year.

“There’s a large section of the populace that’s out on the east end of the county, and for those who don’t have the internet access we wanted to give them another option,” Smith explained.

And from the short time it’s been in place, Smith said they have seen a steady increase in demand for the system.

The kiosk system at Rogersville Town Hall also allows tax payers to pay their property taxes to the Lauderdale County Revenue Commissioner.

Commissioner Smith said residents can access the system between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days per week.
