COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -The Colbert County coroner has identified the man who died after a gun fight with police Sunday. He identified him as Eric Edgell, 27, from Tuscumbia.
Investigators say officers received a 911 call about a man who had a gun along 2nd Street in Muscle Shoals. He was reportedly threatening suicide.
Muscle Shoals Police and Sheffield Police both responded to the call.
During the encounter, the Edgell ran into the woods near the entrance to the TVA reservation.
When police ran after him, Edgell reportedly fired his gun, and officers returned gunfire. No officers were hurt during the incident.
Sheffield PD, Muscle Shoals PD, Colbert County Sheriff's deputies and State Troopers all responded to the scene.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting. Investigators will present their findings to the Colbert County District Attorney's Office.
