HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - In less than two weeks, the wait will be over. Cabela's in Huntsville will open to the public September 30. Today, WHNT News 19 had the opportunity to go inside and give you an early look at what you'll see inside.
"They've been letting us know for years that they want a store and we're excited to bring it to them," said Nathan Borowski, Cabela’s Communications Specialist.
In just 13 days, hundreds are expected to line up outside of Cabela's for its grand opening. "In our other stores, customers would travel several hours to visit a Cablea's store and with this one being the first one in Alabama, we fully expect that to be the case here," said Borowski.
The boom of out-of-towners would dump money into the local economy from them eating, shopping, staying and experiencing Huntsville, making Cabela's a destination. "We don't want this to be a place where customers come in and then leave, we want them to come in and have fun," said Borowski.
220 jobs were created run this 82,000 square foot store; many of them, local. "I'm a local guy, I hunt and fish around here. It's been my passion since I was a little kid," said Hunter Shell.
And now he gets to share that passion with every customer he meets. "To get to come to work every day and be in this kind of environment, it's just a dream come true," said Shell.
Shell will also be “cutting the ribbon” by shooting an arrow towards a bull’s-eye on Opening day. Shell won a contest amongst his co-workers for the opportunity.
The 82,000-square-foot store is designed to offer an "immersive outdoor experience." There are wildlife displays, outdoor photos, hand-painted murals, an aquarium and an indoor archery range. The store also has a cafe, fudge shop, boat shop, gun library and "bargain cave."
Cabela's Huntsville is located at 7090 Cabela Drive NW. The store has employed approximately 225 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees to staff the store.
