Scene of an officer-involved shooting in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Tuscaloosa Police say an assault call turned into a deadly officer-involved shooting Thursday night. Officers responded to a call at Chateau Apartments on E. University Blvd. around 6:00 p.m.

The officer said he made contact with the suspect, then an altercation ensued between the officer and offender. The officer used his taser on the man, but said it wasn’t effective in stopping the fight. Tuscaloosa Police say that’s when the officer drew his firearm and shot the man, who died at the scene.

The officer received treatment for his injuries at the DCH medical center.

Tuscaloosa Police haven’t released the name of the 50-year-old killed in the incident.

The Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit was called to the scene, as with all death investigations. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office will conduct it’s own investigation into the shooting, independent from the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
