ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- The city of Albertville announced another shopping center will be opening next year.

AAA Properties is scheduled to construct a 95,000 square foot shopping center next to The CrossRoads Mall. "We've already got commitments from Dunham's Sports and Ollie's Bargain Outlet," says Melody Whitten, Director of Community & Economic Development.

Whitten says there is room for more. "It will be about a 100,000 square foot shopping center and with those two leases executed we've accounted for 60,000 square feet," Whitten says.

The shopping center will be located next to the CrossRoads Mall off of 431. "There was a strip mall located next to the CrossRoads Mall and our tornado of April 2010 destroyed that strip mall and that property has been for sale ever since," explains Whitten.

The stores will help keep business in the area and draw more in. "Right now we're losing 100 percent of our sporting goods shopping to other cities and other counties," Whitten says, "So we're hoping that Dunham's will help us capture that sporting goods dollar back into Albertville."

This announcement comes on the heels of another big development currently underway. "The Shoppes of Albertville is scheduled to open at that same time. So we're very fortunate that  within months of each other we'll have 200 thousand square feet of shopping center new in Albertville," Whitten says.

“We are grateful to Dunham’s and Ollie’s for selecting Albertville as the site for their newest stores and making that investment in our community,” added Mayor Tracy Honea. “I welcome them to Albertville and am confident that they will be pleased with how they are embraced by our citizens.”

Construction will begin shortly with opening scheduled for spring of 2016.
