HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - For the last couple of years, the officers of Huntsville Police Department's West Precinct have quietly collected school supplies for needy children in the area.

The precinct's Community Resource Officer, John Hollingsworth, says, "all of us have families, have kids. We want to show these kids that they are just as important as anybody else's kids."

With the start of school just weeks away, the precinct is again working to help these children, who might otherwise show up empty-handed on the first day of class.

The school supply drive will run through July 24. On July 25, the officers will take the donations to the Westside Community Center for distribution.

Donations may be dropped off at the West Precinct, which is located at 2110 Clinton Avenue W. The precinct is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
