HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Heart of the Valley YMCA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama established a new strategic alliance at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding Friday.

“By aligning the missions, visions and resources of our agencies, we believe together we can better solve some of the complex issues facing the youth of our community,” said Jerry Courtney, President of Heart of the Valley YMCA. “Our hope is that our work together will have greater impact and will encourage others to break down institutional silos and pull together to better serve youth and families throughout our region.”

The two agencies launched the collaboration with the first P.A.C.E. (Positive Attitude Changes Everything) Leadership Camp for 35 students who will attend school for the first time together as classmates at Huntsville Junior High School.

Six focus areas will constitute the framework for further collaboration: Aquatics Safety/Swim Lessons, Childcare Services, Summer Camp/Outdoor Activities, Healthy Family Initiative, P.A.C.E. and Closing the Achievement Gap.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs and Heart of the Valley YMCA are coming together in a collaborative effort to concentrate on the challenges of youth in our communities,” said Patrick Wynn, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama. “This partnership will allow our influence to become more prevalent in North Alabama, and create a blueprint for future collaborative efforts.”
