HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A number of people planning to spend their night in a hotel room spent hours outside trying to figure out what to do for the night.

Sunday afternoon, officials say Huntsville Fire & Rescue responded to a fire on the second floor of the InTown Suites Extended-Stay Living on The Boardwalk.

Hours later, at around 7 p.m. guests were allowed to enter their rooms with an escort to retrieve medications and other necessary items for the night.

At 9 p.m. guests were still outside of the building because the power was still out and firefighters were still surveying the property.

Many have pre-paid accommodation plans with the hotel, and have been since transferred to the La Quinta and other nearby hotels. It is unclear when guests will be allowed back in the building.
