HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Today marks the 55th Anniversary of Marshall Space Flight Center. It was created July 1st, 1960; just two years after NASA.
Dr. Wernher Von Braun and many of the original German rocket team led the move from the Army Ballistic Missile Agency at Redstone Arsenal. Essentially, the new Marshall employees left work on missiles and moved across the hall to work on rockets.
Marshall Space Flight Center made President Kennedy's promise of going to the moon within the decade possible.
MSFC is now in charge of developing and managing America's next manned space craft, the Space Launch System.
