ATHENS, Ala. – Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Shane Stokes, 45, on June 30, charging him with first degree sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under 12.

Investigators say Stokes knew the victim’s mother, and often spent the night at their house.

While the victim was in the custody of her father and paternal grandparents, she told them about some of the things a man named “Mike” had done to her.

Her grandparents knew Stokes was friends with the boyfriend of the victim’s mother, and knew where he worked.

Investigators say they found and interviewed Stokes at his job, and he gave them permission to search his residence, where they seized two laptops.

Stokes is now in custody, and his bond has been set at $25,000 for the sodomy charge.
