UPDATE: More north Alabama probate judges issue marriage licenses, others still not issuing licenses at all

colbert countyALABAMA – On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a ban on same-sex marriage. That opinion requires all 50 states to legalize marriage for two people of the same sex.

WHNT News 19 is currently making calls to see which counties in Alabama are issuing marriage licenses.

Here’s a breakdown by county in alphabetical order:

  • Colbert County: Not issuing any licenses until they fully review the order
  • DeKalb County: Issuing licenses to all
  • Franklin County: Not issuing any licenses, only accepting applications until they further review the order
  • Jackson County: Started issuing licenses to all on Monday morning
  • Lauderdale County: Not issuing marriage licenses to anyone until they evaluate further
  • Lawrence County: Issuing marriage licenses to all
  • Limestone County: Issuing licenses to all as of 10:45 Monday morning
  • Madison County: Issuing licenses to all
  • Marshall County: Began issuing licenses to all couples Monday  afternoon
  • Morgan County:  Started issuing licenses to all couples Monday at 9:45 a.m.
  • Lincoln County, TN: Issuing licenses to all
