UPDATE: Sheriff’s office identifies man who died while hiking at Buck’s Pocket State Park

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died Sunday evening while hiking with friends and family at Buck’s Pocket State Park.

Stanley Edward Kirby, 35, from Sylvania.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, Kirby slipped and fell about 40 feet from a cliff about 6:30 p.m.  He was at the state park with his sister, her boyfriend and some friends.

The high angle rescue team retrieved Kirby and multiple agencies assisted in the efforts, including the DeKalb Ambulance Service, Fisher and Geraldine Rescue Squads, Grove Oak Fire Department, Officials from the State Park Services and Air Evac Helicopter out of Huntsville.

Sheriff Harris says this appears to have been an accident.
