NEW MARKET, Ala. – The Madison County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team was called to a New Market neighborhood Tuesday afternoon to assist authorities with a barricaded man.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Crystal Creek Dr. around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to assist with an ordered mental commitment. Before they arrived, the man threatened his family with a blunt object, deputies said. No one was hurt and the family made it out of the home safely, but the man barricaded himself inside.

A SWAT team entered the home after authorities tried to contact him and convince him to come out. He was taken into custody without incident or injury, deputies said.

The man was taken to the hospital as a precaution. His name is not being released.
