Huntsville investigators release new information about Timbercrest Dr. shooting death

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Huntsville Police have released new details about a shooting that left a woman dead Tuesday.

Amanda Jo Scott, 29, of Fayetteville, Tenn. was fatally shot at a residence on Timbercrest Drive, near Blue Spring Road, Tuesday. Thursday, Huntsville Police say their investigation revealed the events that led up to her death.

Investigators with the Huntsville Police Major Crimes Unit said Scott and a male friend went to the Timbercrest home to meet another man to buy drugs. At some point during the meeting, the group began discussing the second man’s handgun. Police said when he pulled it out to show it off, it accidentally discharged, hitting Scott.

The report said when Huntsville officers arrived on the scene, Scott had already died from her injury.

The Huntsville Police Department, along with the Madison County District Attorneys’ Office, has submitted evidence to a grand jury for review and consideration. They will release no further information about the incident in the interest of preserving their case.
