LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. – At its meeting Thursday morning, the Limestone County Board of Education approved the terminations of 51 positions in the district: 36 teachers and 15 support staff members.

District officials say many of the terminations are temporary positions left vacant due to retirement, resignations, leaves of absence or were only one year positions.

The school district has begun interviewing for replacements and will fill those positions as needed over the summer. That means they will not all be replaced.

The board also voted to name the new elementary school in West Limestone “Sugar Creek Elementary”. The school’s mascot will be the Bobcats and the school colors are red, white and blue.

The new school will be built on Salem Minor Road.  The district expects to break ground in August.
