UPDATE: State Bureau of Investigations takes over officer-involved shooting investigation in Marshall Co.

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – Officials with the State Bureau of Investigations say that entity will proceed with the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday night.

Officials say this is at the request of the Albertville Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened at a home on South Cahill Road, just south of West Main Street in Albertville Tuesday night.

The call came in around 7:30 p.m.

Officials say a person attempted to break into the home. They say an off-duty deputy was there. Someone called 911 and Albertville Police responded.

Officials say that’s when the person attempted to take a patrol car.

At least one shot was fired, hitting the would-be robber but it’s not clear who fired the weapon.

The person was taken to the hospital.

No names are being released at this time.

The SBI will forward the findings to the District Attorney for review.
