TOWN CREEK, Ala. (WHNT) - It's no secret there's a lot of poverty in Lawrence County. But there are also a lot of people who are passionate about helping others. Pastor Mitchell Hallmark is one of them. WHNT NEWS 19 showed up at a service at the Lawrence County Dream Center for a surprise visit.

WHNT NEWS 19 didn't waste anytime getting to Pastor Hallmark after the Thursday night service ended to surprise him with $319. Here's a portion of the email nomination about Hallmark from Chris Fisher:

"I have never met anyone as passionate about helping others as Pastor Mitchell Hallmark. Pastor Mitch spends every day and every night passing on God's blessings in one way or another. He provides food to the needy, oversees a recovery program for men with addiction, and has the backpack program for kids in Lawrence County Schools. He has been known to spend more out of his pocket than he receives from donations, to assure these kids have food on the weekend."

Pastor Hallmark was grateful for the money and timing. Supplies were running low in the pantry and there are still several weeks left in the backpack program he helps organize.

"I'm just excited to receive this and use it to be a blessing to the kids in Lawrence County," says Hallmark.

The Pay it Forward cash will also help The Lawrence County Dream Center house more men, who are working to overcome addiction, just like Hallmark did years ago.

"We're seeing a big change in their lives," explains Hallmark. "We help them get jobs and teach them about how to be men of God."

After hearing the kinds words written about him, Pastor Hallmark is more motivated than ever.
