NEW MARKET, Ala. (WHNT) - It's prom season and teens all over north Alabama are making memories that will last a lifetime. However, prom is very expensive and not everyone can afford it. That's where one group steps in to help. Creating Fairytales started earlier this year, in February.

Cindy DeLisle and a few friends just couldn't bear the thought of teenage boys and girls missing out on prom and other special events.

"This is our little boutique for the girls," describes DeLisle, as she shows us around. The boutique is complete with jewelry, purses, shoes, a fitting room and plenty of dresses. Teenage girls can choose styles that range from simple to sparkly.

"Some like the very plain styles and then they dress them up themselves," explains DeLisle. "Silver has been the big thing this year. Some of them love the fact that it's just the big big ball gown."

The sizes range from double zero to 24. There are suits for guys too. It feels like a real store, not a room inside DeLisle's home in New Market. That's the point of "Creating Fairytales." It started when DeLisle realized the place she used to donate dresses wasn't around anymore.

"There's a huge need out there," says DeLisle. "I was like, 'I'm going to pick up the ball and run with it.' Then, I got my best friend involved and another friend involved."

Since that initial conversation, they haven't looked back. It's not just about making kids look good, but feel good too.

"It helps with their confidence and self-esteem," says DeLisle. "We really create that 'Aha!' moment for them when they see something in themselves that they didn't see before."

Receiving $319 is something DeLisle didn't see coming.

"Oh my God!" she shouted. "Wow! That is amazing!"

Wow is the same reaction DeLisle gets from parents and it keeps her going.

"When they walk out and see their daughter in this prom dress or see their son in this full suit with the vest and everything, that makes everything worth it."

If you want to donate dresses or other formal wear, you can drop them off at the Saving Way Thrift Store locations on University Drive or Winchester Road. You can also ship them to:
