Motorcycle pursuit ends in fatality, 2 arrested

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. – A man is dead after an attempted traffic stop by an Etowah County Sheriff’s deputy led to the pursuit of two motorcycles Tuesday night.

Sheriff Todd Entrekin said the pursuit began just before 8 Tuesday night when two motorcycles failed to stop near Miller Hollow Road and Highway 77, Attalla. After a chase, one of the motorcycles crashed into another vehicle on Highway 77, near the on-ramp of Interstate 59.

A man and a woman on the bike were both ejected and injured during the crash, Sheriff Entrekin said. The driver was flown to a Birmingham hospital, where he later died. The passenger was transported to local hospital. Sheriff Entrekin said she is wanted for warrants in St. Clair County and charges are pending in Etowah County.

Sheriff Enterkin said deputies found drugs, drug paraphernalia, guns, fake law enforcement badges, and brass knuckles in a backpack in the man and woman’s possession.

An man on a second motorcycle continued to flee after the first bike crashed. He was later arrested by Attalla Police on warranted in Marshall County.

The identity of the people involved will be released when warrants are obtained in Etowah County, Sheriff Entrekin said.
