UPDATE: Teen shot in leg, police looking for suspect

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Huntsville Police are looking for a known suspect following a shooting near downtown.

Lieutenant Larry Childers tells WHNT News 19 a 14-year-old male was shot in the leg near the 100th block of Mason Court.

Police say the victim and his step-father were walking back from a shopping trip when a man in his late teens or early 20’s stepped out from around a corner and fired in their direction.

The victim told police they hid at a nearby apartment while the suspect ran away. Police say the boy’s injuries are non-life threatening and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police are actively seeking a suspect in connection with the incident, but could not release more information about his identity because he may be under the age of 18.
