HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- While you are busy scraping together your next power bill payment, Huntsville Utilities crews spent Thursday scraping the parking lots to make sure you can physically pay it.

The early morning sleet left many drive-through payment lanes frozen at the Pulaski Pike Center.

"We've been cleaning up and putting de-icer down just trying to make sure everything's thawed out and make it safe for the customers," said Huntsville Utilities crew leader George Hereford.

Crews spent nearly 12 hours Thursday making sure all of the roadways leading up to their drop-boxes were clear.

"It's been kind of cold," said Hereford. "As long as you dress for it, it's okay, but it's been really tough out here today, but you know how it is, somebody's got to do it."

Despite the band of bad weather, officials with Huntsville Utilities say they have not seen a surge in late payments. They also note that if you think you will have a problem paying your recent bill on time contact a customer service representative.

Huntsville Utilities has plenty of other ways to pay that do no include driving, but it you do get behind the wheel, thanks to the crews braving the cold, you cannot blame a late payment on the ice.

"No excuses," said Hereford, "they should be able to make it."
