LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A recent animal cruelty case in Lauderdale County will soon head to the grand jury.

An attorney for 38-year-old Laura Fitterman Sherwood waived a preliminary hearing this week.  Sherwood and her husband Patrick are charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

Law enforcement seized more than 200 animals from their Central Heights property in January.

Sherwood’s attorney said he wants to get the case into circuit court so a mental evaluation can be performed.

Both the Sherwoods are being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
