CLEVELAND, Ohio (WHNT) - Almost from the beginning, Luke Ruehlman's parents sensed there was something different about him. Even as a toddler, he was extremely cautious, always on the lookout for danger.
And there were other peculiarities, according to Luke's mother.
"He'd say, 'when I was a girl, I had black hair,' or he'd say, 'I used to have earrings like that when I was a girl,'" Erika Ruehlman says.
But not just any girl. One particular girl, named Pam.
Finally, Luke's mother had enough. She demanded to know who "Pam" was. As Erika recalls, "that's when (Luke) turned to me and said, 'well, I was.'"
Luke told his mother he used to be a woman named Pam who died and went to heaven. That's where he says, "God pushed me back down and when I woke up I was a baby and you named me Luke."
Erika Ruehlman was baffled. She says she and Luke's dad had never even discussed God or heaven with him. Searching for answers, she turned to the Internet.
What she found, would shock everyone. Pam actually existed and something very unusual happened to her.
But was it a true connection or simply coincidence? The Ruehlmans share their story Monday, February 23 on WHNT News 19 at 10:00 p.m.
