ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – Today is a national holiday to pay tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.  There will be several stories told on this day about King’s impact on our nation’s history and his dream for equality.

That is the focus of today’s coverage of this important holiday.

However, this and other holidays also bring a chance for you to save money at a number of retailers.  Many retailers and restaurants are hoping to bring in business by offering you deals and discounts.

The manager of Village Pizza in Athens is expecting a crowd of customers.

“Kids from school, adults, everybody, families,” said Angie Taylor.

And to help them out, Village Pizza is offering 15 percent off on purchases.

The restaurant will operate during its regular hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the restaurant and for delivery.

“Fire and ice wings are the most popular and then our specialty pizza,” said Taylor.

Several other businesses in downtown Athens are offering the same or similar discounts, including Trinity’s, Bennett’s and Belles and Beaus.

And there are many more good deals out there which you can find online.

The website DealsPlus lists all kinds of sales going on.  From clothing to electronics to pharmacies, just click on what you’re looking for.

The International Business Times has another list.  This one lists both the retailers too and the restaurants offering discounts.

For example, IHOP offers all-you-can-eat pancakes.  Burger King, Papa John’s Pizza and Taco Bell are also offering deals.

While it is important not lose focus on the real reason for this holiday, saving money is never a bad idea.
