Early morning shooting claims the life of one in Moulton, injures another

MOULTON, Ala. (WHNT) – Lawrence County Deputies responded to a shooting at a home on County Road 539 in Moulton.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found Jimmy Dale Summerford dead from a single gunshot wound.

The homeowner told deputies Jimmy Dale Summerford was attempting to break into his home.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said “Apparently Summerford, was upset with [the shooter] over a relationship with a woman the two men had in common. ”

Investigators were called to the scene, where they discovered Summerford busted out two windows on the travel style trailer in an attempt to unlock the front door when he was shot.

Sheriff Mitchell added, “Investigators learned there had been a second person shot during the altercation.”

Deputies believed the third person drove to Parkway Medical Center for treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg.

No arrest have been made and investigators are still looking into the shooting, but say all evidence points to self-defense.
