HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - It was a near-perfect launch for the big changes to Huntsville's annual New Year's Eve celebration in Big Spring Park.

Terrame Salon Spa traded a ball drop for a moon glow and rockets.

Hours after the celebration, the waddling regulars at the park wander through the aftermath of Terrame Rockets into 2015 celebration.

"I think it went great," said Charles Johnson, co-owner of Terrame

He was out in the excitement until four o'clock in the morning.

He says Operation Green Team volunteers will clean up the debris left behind and the rocket will be disassembled and stored until next year.

The rocket as well as a huge inflatable moon were the centerpieces of the party.

Thousands of people came out to have fun dancing and even share a romantic moment.

"I've just always wanted to propose on new year's, so I figured that would be a good time," said
Tanner Clark, who proposed to his girlfriend.

He ended up dropping the ring in the mud, but she still said yes.

It wasn't the only minor snafu of the night.

"We did have some gusts of wind so we couldn't take the ball up as high as we wanted do," said Johnson.  "We still got it about 60 feet in the air.  We were trying to get it up top about 80 feet."

And the 15-foot-tall rocket saw a minor malfunction.  It blew a fuse.

"So, the rocket sound wasn't as loud as we wanted to," said Johnson.  "We kinda got it back up and running after about 60 seconds after midnight."

Aside from that, he says the event was a blast.

Organizers gave out 2,500 glow necklaces, 1,000 t-shirts, and 1,100 people took the QR Code Stroll to learn about Operation Green Team.

Johnson hopes that will lead to more people joining Operation Green Team to help keep the Rocket City sparkling.

Johnson says next year, they'll probably move the time of the celebration back to 8:00pm from 6:00pm.

And they're also working on the logistics to actually launch the rocket off the ground at a future celebration.
