FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) - The storyline is a simple one for the University of North Alabama football team. A win Thursday night at West Alabama would guarantee the Lions no less than a share of the 2014 Gulf South Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
The task at hand is not so simple, however, as the Lions face a solid West Alabama squad on the road on a short week. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 13) at Tiger Stadium. The game will be carried over the internet by ESPN3.
UNA enters the game ranked 15th nationally in Division II and the Lions carry an 8-1 overall record and 5-1 GSC mark. UNA is tied with Delta State atop the GSC standings. There is no league tie-breaker so a win by the Lions would give UNA at least a share of the 2014 GSC crown. North Alabama is the only GSC school to have won 10 football crows, including a shared-title in 2013.
North Alabama did drop one spot in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region 2 rankings to fourth. The top six teams selected in the final rankings on Nov. 16 will advance to the Division II playoffs.
