Buckhorn High dedicates memorial wall in honor of veterans
MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – With schools closed for Veterans Day Tuesday, students across the Tennessee Valley are holding special programs today.
One such recognition took place at Buckhorn High School in Madison County.
The school observed its 22nd Annual Veterans Day Celebration with a full schedule of events Monday, culminating in a school-wide assembly.
The day began with a breakfast for veterans hosted by the school’s culinary class. Following breakfast, the veterans were escorted to a ceremony in front of Buckhorn High’s new Veterans Memorial Wall.
The wall was constructed to honor all veterans, but especially those from the Madison County area. The BHS Junior ROTC has been raising money for the project. So far, the students have collected more than $15,000 in donations of money and materials.
They are still working to raise approximately $8,300 to pay for the branch and service seals, as well as the brick pavers at the base of the memorial.
Anyone interested in making a contribution is asked to contact LTC (Ret) Robert Hartley at (256) 851-3303.
