FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Florence Police standoff ended peacefully Monday night. A man is in custody after a four hour standoff with officers.

Florence Police officers responded to a call of a man with a gun around 3:00 P.M.

Lauderdale County employees conducting property tax assessments contacted police after a man in the area of Old Cloverdale Rd charged them with a gun. Witnesses stated that the man charged the employee’s vehicle and then began chasing the workers along the roadway.

When officers arrived to the scene near North Wood Avenue, they said the man locked himself in a house on  Wyers Drive and refused to come out or speak to officers.

They set up a staging area at a nearby church while they negotiated with the man.  Hours later, they successfully arrested him and charged him with two counts of menacing.

They haven’t released the name of the man at this time.
