Meet the Kick Returner Who Wants to Look as Goods as He Plays

Athens, Ala. – (WHNT) The quickest way to turn around a game is on special teams. Terrance Watkins is a game changer on the Athens kick return team, taking two kicks back in the season’s first two weeks.

“You have to be fearless,” Golden Eagles head coach Allen Creasy said about the art of kick returning.  “You have to be able to catch the ball and run with speed. Kind of like a race car driver, you have to run through the smoke and expect to come out on the other side, and that’s kind of how he does it.”

Watkins doesn’t claim to have any hidden talents off the field, and his talent on the field is no longer hidden. The rest of class 6A region 8 is taking notice as Athens enters the meat of it’s schedule.  It’s obvious he’s been able to walk the walk, and coach Creasy says that’s important because he loves to talk the talk.

“He’s a unique individual, he’s a thoroughbred, there is no doubt about it. He likes how he looks and he likes how he plays, but he is able to back it up on the field.”

Watkins will definitely agree with that statement, saying “I feel like if you look good you play good.”
