Focus groups of students, parents to meet with Dept. of Justice in school mediation process
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Huntsville Board of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice continue with the mediation process in the school rezoning plan. The details of the mediation are being kept closely guarded, but Friday, the school system released new information about some upcoming focus groups.
The school board has invited representatives from the Department of Justice to speak with students and parents in focus groups from September 8-12 to gather information. The meetings will be private, and are for purposes of information gathering, the school system said.
No information about the mediation will be discussed in the meetings.
The school system plans to send letters to parents and guardians with students in grades 3-12 in the next few days.
It’s not clear how the focus groups will be selected. The school system is releasing very limited information due to the court keeping a very close eye on the mediation process.
