HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)-- It's soon to be out with the old location and in with DRS Technologies' new setup outside the Redstone Arsenal.

Tim Smith, DRS Technologies Vice President/General Manager, said the move "strategically it puts us on a good position because we're right here on the doormat if you will, of Redstone."

He said the company executives are really excited about the new opportunities they could garner at the new location.

DRS Technologies works with military technology and homeland security, said Mike Ward, Sr. Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce. He said the hope is they can increase efficiency at the new facility.

"We've been in Huntsville for 50 plus years," said Smith. "This is a long-term commitment that we are going to stay in Huntsville for the next decade."

The company has no immediate plans to add new jobs after the move, but executives do hope it brings more chances to grow.

Mayor Tommy Battle commented this also means the Redstone Gateway location is up-and-coming, and hopes it attracts new industry because of moves like DRS Technologies'.

"It just gives us a lot more capacity to work to bring more businesses in," he said.

DRS Technologies plans to move into the new building by February 2015, and broke ground Wednesday on the adjacent property, to be completed by next June.
