FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – It’s a place with memories for many in the Shoals. The Children’s Museum opened thirteen years ago with a goal of making learning fun. Now, its lack of attendance is causing some financial problems. These problems could cause it to close its doors forever.

Museum board members say the solution would be to have the city of Florence take over the museum.  Council president Dick Jordan says before any decision is made, there’s a number of factors the city must look into.

“We are just going to have to look and see the finances and see if we can afford it. I’d like to look and see if we can get a partner with the Florence City Schools or a university to come in and partner with us to help us operate it,’ said Florence Council President Dick Jordan.

Jordan says a decision will be made within the next month.
