HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Federal investigators are investigating how a hydrogen tank exploded at Cimmarron Composites, a business on Moores Mill Road, Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters on the scene say two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries but it could have been a lot worse given the nature of the explosion.

A WHNT News 19 viewer wrote into the newsroom saying that his workplace, approximately a half mile from Cimmarron Composites, shook from the force of the explosion.

Cimmarron Composites is a company that develops high pressure tanks and pressure vessels. Its website says the business also “We also develop composite armor for ballistic protection, unique lightweight structures for UAVs and satellites, composite vessels for compressed natural gas applications, vessels to contain hydrogen and cryogenic fluids, and all-composite tanks with no metal liners.”
