Rep. Brooks waiting to see opponent campaign
HUNTSVILLE Ala. (WHNT)- Wednesday Congressman Mo Brooks (R-5th District) attended a luncheon for the Association of Builders and Contractors in Huntsville. Now that the incumbent has an opponent, WHNT News 19 got his input on challenger Mark Bray.
“So far, the vast majority of people have no idea that I have opposition,” said Brooks.
Well, he does. The November ballot will have 2 names for 5th Congressional seat: independent Mark Bray and incumbent Mo Brooks.
When asked if he’ll debate…
“It depends on the circumstances,” said Rep. Brooks, “I’m going to reserve judgment on that to see if he runs a campaign.”
In early spring, it appeared Brooks would run unopposed. But, the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office certified that Bray got enough signatures to run. Still, Brooks is saying little about his challenger.
“I have lots of thoughts. But, I’m going to withhold public statement.”
Brooks has represented the 5th district since 2011. Meanwhile, Bray hopes to change the tide for independent candidates in Alabama.
According to Bray’s campaign page, the aerospace engineer has already made appearances at a number of events to get his name out there before the November 4th election.
