FERGUSON, Missouri (CNN) — Michael Brown was shot at least six times, including twice in the head, according to the preliminary results of an autopsy that his family requested.

Family attorney Anthony Gray said the independent autopsy, conducted Sunday, found that Brown was shot twice in the head and four times in the right arm — all to the front of his body.

“This is bound to escalate tensions,” the Rev. Jesse Jackson told CNN. “This is a very provocative report.”

Indeed, even before the details of the autopsy came out, a day of peaceful protests devolved into a night of gunfire, Molotov cocktails and tear gas late Sunday night.

Officers fired tear gas into a crowd of hundreds of protesters, including children, who were marching toward a police command post despite an impending midnight curfew.

St. Louis County police said several protesters had thrown Molotov cocktails toward the officers before authorities shot tear gas toward them. A captain with the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department told CNN, “Shots were fired in our direction.”

But protester Lisha Williams challenged that narrative.

“That is a lie. It was no fight, it was no shots fired,” Williams told CNN. “All we did was march to the command center to fall to our knees and say, ‘Don’t shoot.’ And they started shooting.”

Autopsy details

Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot dead nine days ago by a white police officer. Last week, the St. Louis County police department said an original autopsy found that Brown, 18, died of gunshot wounds. But the department wouldn’t say how many times he was shot or any other details.

The last of information prompted Brown’s family to request an independent autopsy.

According to the preliminary results of the family autopsy, the bullets that struck Brown were not fired from close range, as indicated by the absence of gunpowder residue on his body.

One of the bullets shattered his right eye, traveled through his face, exited his jaw and re-entered his collarbone, according to the autopsy.

The last two shots were likely the ones to his head, attorney Gray said. One entered the top of his Brown’s skull, suggesting his head was bent forward when he was struck.

The independent autopsy was conducted by high-profile pathologist Michael Baden. Baden testified in the O.J. Simpson, Phil Spector and Drew Peterson murder trials.

Cousin: Brown killed without reason

The clashes that ensued Sunday night were a far cry from a packed church earlier Sunday, where hundreds of people gathered for a two-hour rally demanding justice for

“I’m astonished at this reversal of mood,” Jackson said. “The mood was so positive.”

A cousin of Brown told the church audience that Brown was killed without reason.

“What I want y’all to remember is that Michael Brown was not just some young black boy. He was a human being,” Ty Pruitt said. “He was not a suspect. He was not an object. He was not an animal. But that’s how he was killed.”

Michael Brown’s parents — Lesley McSpadden and Michael Brown Sr. — appeared on stage at the rally at Greater Grace Church with attorney Benjamin Crump but didn’t address the audience.

“What we’re really asking for is simple justice,” Crump said. “We’re not asking for anything extraordinary. They just want what anybody else would want if their children were shot down in broad daylight.”

Crump said there would be an independent investigation in addition to the federal and local probes already under way.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson spoke to the 1,300 people in the congregation and said he had a heavy heart.

“The past 24 hours have been tough for me,” said Johnson, who took over security in the town on Thursday after what many saw as an overly aggressive police response by the local authorities. Johnson said he met with members of the Brown family and was moved to tears.

Protests had turned violent on Saturday night as well after a curfew began. One male was shot overnight Saturday, authorities said. It was unclear how old he was or who shot him. The victim was in critical condition Sunday.

Officials said state highway patrol officers didn’t fire any shots. They did fire tear gas to get to the wounded victim, Johnson said early Sunday.

A third autopsy

Brown was shot to death August 9 by a police officer after a confrontation as the teen walked down the street. Accounts of exactly what happened when Officer Darren Wilson stopped Brown vary widely.

Witnesses said they saw a scuffle between the officer and Brown at the police car before the young man was shot. Police said Brown struggled with the officer and reached for his weapon.

Several witnesses said Brown raised his hands and was not attacking the officer.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has approved another autopsy on Brown’s body, the Justice Department said. The autopsy will be conducted by a federal medical examiner.

The video’s of the crowds of protesters, looters, rioters, shooters and arsonists speaks for itself. No longer is the death of Brown relevant to the actions of these crowds of people. Even Jesse Jackson, who was in the crowd, bailed out early from the dangers of the crowd on the street there as the lawlessness escalated once again before midnight.

Anarchy has now become the crowd’s nature as the residents of Ferguson try to find safe places in their homes to stay. One can imagine that only armed homeowners are keeping the anarchy from burning down their homes now.

The Governor of Missouri has added to the anarchy with his “back & forth” dialogue now so he has no choice but to out troops into the town & ngihborhoods…as when the anarchy is pushed out of the business area then the homes will be next.
This black anarchy is setting back the rightful goals of many, many, many peoples as the video of the behaviors seen tells the ugly truth of their angry culture.

please note the apparent typo mistakes were not in my copy, but rather Ch19’s s/w is not properly accepting text for some reason as words are being deleted & scrambled in the spelling at times.

“…found that Brown was shot twice in the head and four times in the right arm — all to the front of his body.”

Hey, how about going back and compare those words to the early on comments about him being shot in the back?

I learned Saturday nite, from FoxNews, JUSTICE with Judge Jeanine that Brown had been shot multiple times, but earlier reports on local, and even that he had been shot in the back????

    • B

I was thinking the same thing, his friend that was with him said they were walking away and the cop started shooting, hit Brown, that’s when brown turned around and put his hands up.
      If I remember correctly.

    • Branko Pezdi

Turns out this “gentle giant” was just another thug who’d just robbed a store. Turns out the “witness” was his partner. Turns out the thug was shot by a cop defending himself. Turns out the liberal media have pumped false hysteria and exacerbated yet another situation. Just another bright mark in Obama’s-Sharpton’s-Jackson’s balkanized America.

  • sally

It had to be told he was shot by a WHITE police.. What if the cop was BLACK? Would it get the same ATTENTION? No I personal don’t think so. Just another black vs white deal.People is mad, hurt and full of questions. Have you ever though the parent’s should have know what a child was doing? Where were they at? Blame it on something, might as well be a old mean WHITE police,

    • B

If it would have been a black man shooting brown we would have never heard about it, cop or not. Same would be true is Brown was a white kid, we wouldn’t even know it had happened. This is nothing more than than the people wanting to blame racism for his death IMO.

  • B

By the way, cute picture of the 6′,4″ 280 pound thug. Why not use the picture of him holding the store clerk up by the shirt?

  • Michael

“According to the preliminary results of the family autopsy, the bullets that struck Brown were not fired from close range, as indicated by the absence of gunpowder residue on his body.”

I find it hard to be in danger for your life when an unarmed person isn’t close to you. Credible witness or not.

    • B

The officer may have been in the wrong, maybe the officer went into a rage after he was supposedly assaulted by Brown, and out of pure anger he shot him. I’m not saying Brown deserved to die, we don’t know that and more than likely we will never know for sure what happened. I’m just sick of hearing how these people are acting, then you watch videos and their hanging out of cars, dancing, drinking, smoking pot in the streets. It’s just an excuse for them to act like complete scumbag fools (to put it nicely)! It’s sickening to see people take advantage of such a situation. Then you have Sharpton with money signs in his eyes, just stirring more crap, and the media portraying Brown as an innocent 18yr old when it’s clear from the “strong arm” robbery video he was nothing but a punk thug who used his size to intimidate and get his way. Everything about this is ridiculous! How many of these idiots are laying out of work because of this? How many people can’t go to work temporarily because their workplace was set on fire?
Michael I know you will disagree with this, but at this point, after 9 days of pure anarchy in that town it’s time for a zero tolerance policy in Ferguson. If your caught looting, you should be shot on site. if your caught throwing rocks, bricks, etc at officers, you should be shot on site. If your caught with a Molotov cocktail or any other means of burning something else, you should be shot on site. If your in the streets blocking traffic, you should be arrested. People are getting hurt in the crowds and emergency personal can’t even get to them.

    • Branko Pezdi

When a crazy 6’4″ thug is coming back at you after you’ve fended him off and prevented him from grabbing your gun, I’d say your life is in danger.

See how this goes yet as far as uninformed conclusions are concerned?

      • Michael

Has anyone other than the officer said Brown was going for his gun? Trust me, a lot of cops use that line no matter if it’s true or not.

  • Franca

You news people should be ashamed posting things like this. Making things worse then they are. Pointing at color of the person! Your the reason I have to see this ignorant stuff all over the place. And listen to ignorant people saying things they know nothing about.

    • Branko Pezdi

Exactly. The hysterical liberal “mainstream” media are guilty of overblowing and continuing to inflame the situation in Ferguson.

  • Jay Law

Wow, I just lost any respect for Channel 19. I didn’t realize you folks were playing the race baiting game as well. Jesse Jackson and Al Satan are nothing more than Violence promoters and your right on board with them.

  • Mag

Branko you are the one using the race card . You comments speak loud and clear about what kind of person you are,
with all of your name calling. America is a racist country and it will always be that way as long as we have half white half black kids being call black(as in president ). America has a race problem and not a race card

    • B

People like Jackson and Sharpton ARE the race problem in our country. Sure there are a few extremist here and there that are racist, but that’s not the problem. Its people like Eric Holder that blame everything on race, its that mentality that’s the problem.
The majority of the black community call Obama black, are they racist?

  • Mag

The whole white community call him (Obama) black and if those people didn’t speak up for the black people who will the white community ? I don’t think so . I think you(B) don’t want the blacks to have a voice

    • B

See its that attitude right there that is the problem, you want so bad for this to be a race issue! Just like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and so many others, that’s the only reason they are even there. Just like the only reason you are commenting is to blame race! Well its time to grow up, I don’t know what generation you belong to but I’m fairly young and the people I grew up with don’t think like that.
You are a sick individual MAC I have two black nephews that I love to death, and you assume that I don’t want them to have a voice? Get over yourself!
Also since 2008 when Obama was elected and everyone screaming “yay, our first black president” I have said “hes not even really black. His mother is white, his father is Kenyan.
According to the Washington Post 55% of black people call him black, 34% say hes mixed. While the numbers are almost reversed as far as white people calling him black or mixed.

  • Mag

Do you have two mix nephews or two black nephews ? If they are mix you should say mix . The only thing Obama has done for black is made it harder for black people . The people in the south don’t want to give blacks a jobs now . I work at a school that haven’t hired a black teacher sinceObama been in office and yes they have been a lot of new hires. You are one of a few

    • B

Black nephews not that it matters. The terms black and white are used to describe appearance, not a persons back ground.
Let me ask you this, let’s just say Obama never ran for president or anything else and you had no clue who he was. Let’s say he assaulted you and ran away, when the police asked you to describe him. What would you say? I believe most would say black and some MIGHT include “lighter skin tone” but I don’t believe people would look at him and automaticly know he was mixed. Some people are ignorant to the fact he’s mixed. It’s nothing more than a description of what someone looks like.
You should trust me when I tell you it’s not just black people that Obama has made it hard for, especially when it comes to finding a job. Infanct I will go ahead and throw this at you, true story. last week my company had to let an employee go because work is slow, we had two men with the same positions here, one white and one black. The black man is still employed. The decison had nothing to do with race, just their experience and qualification.
If you feel there is an issue with race at your local school, it should be taken up with the superintendent, board, etc. I don’t know exactly how school systems operate, but you shouldn’t assume it’s a problem everywhere, and spread that thought process. See as long as you tell people that race will hold them back, it will in a lot of cases. Because that person will learn to look at everyone around them as if they were racist until proven that they are not racist and that thought will discourage them from applying for a certain job or whatever it maybe. It should be the other way around. Assume no one is racist until they prove to be racist.

  • Ted

Awww, look at that sweet picture of michael, WHEN HE WAS 9!!! what a bunch of crap!!! SHOW HIS LATEST MUGSHOT!!!! LYING MEDIA, YOU ARE to blame for this mess with your misrepresentation of the facts and stirring of the racial pot!!!!

    • B

Ok, if you want to go through the rest of your life with a chip on your shoulder because you think everyone around you is racist that’s your problem. It doesn’t effect me. However it does affect the people you teach this to. I called you out for accusing someone of being racist that you do not know, and that’s just as bad as being racist.

  • Ray

All i see is a 6’4 280 thug regardless of race. He robbed that store and assaulted the storeowner and he was not the innocent child as described by his supporters. He most likely would of died sooner or later for being a thug in a robbery or something criminal and it could of easily have been a black police officer who finished him off. Its terrible that he grew up in a poor environment but that happens everywhere and all you can do is do your best in school and work hard to overcome your limitations. There are plenty of examples of highly successful people coming from very bad backgrouds but achieving alot in society.

  • Sweet Home AL

i am in the Metro St. Louis area, not too long ago two black young males shot and killed a white female, a St. Louis University college student, robbed for her mobile phone. Where was the out cry for this death of the innocent young lady? Black on black shootings happen nearly every week in STL and black on white crime every few weeks but that doesn’t matter. I white police officer shoots this thug (with the rap sheet to prove it) and all hell breaks loose. Ferguson has become a crime ridden, north STL location and the cops have to deal with this garbage everyday, yet the local media incites these riots with reports that the cops profile and pick on the the residents over the years. If any body is a victim here its the poor folks that have to live in this jungle and can’t sell their homes. The only businesses that were not destroyed and or looted were the owners guarding the front door with big rifles and pistols drawn, oh but we need stronger gun control laws right? Oh and now the federal government has to perform their own investigation just like they did in the Zimmerman trial. So we can see who which race this administration prefers!

    • TruthLivesHere

You can’t race-bait when a Black kills a Black or a Black kills a White. Why doesn’t Jackson or Sharpton show up when a Black kills a Black? Because they don’t care. It would seem to a sensible person that the two Reverends would denounce violence and murder regardless of race. But they don’t. Only when a White kills a Black do they show up. Jackson flew in on his private jet, and was probably transported in a limo to a five-star hotel FAR away from Ferguson after he left the “protest”. Provided he didn’t get back on the private jet and fly back home. He has no clue how the people he pretends to care about actually live, and he doesn’t care. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are nothing more than race-baiters and poverty-pimps.

  • Geo

Fist are a weapon.Everyone is armed with or without a weapon. The police officer went to the hospital to be treated for swelling in the face. How many times do you have to shoot someone like that on drugs to stop them? Why do you think they needed a whole carton of swisher sweets? Because they like cigars? Drug crazed people may not know they are shot and keep coming. If someone attacks me and I fight them off, I’m emptying a mag into them.

  • Tim

Michael , the gun powder may have been on his clothes at close range… The person conducting the autopsy did not have access to the clothes he was wearing. The guy was 290lb and had already tried to take the officers gun. The officer was justified in shooting him at any range if he was coming at him again. The animals in that community have used this as an excuse to commit multiple violent crimes. All because a thug was shot while assaulting an officer. If the animals in that community continue their crimes its possible that they might end up the same way as the thug they are rioting for !!! Cops have shown an extreme amount of restraint so far their patience are probably wearing thin. No excuse for the acts these animals are committing…..

  • welcometotheforge1983

Stop showing the picture of this boy as a 10-year-old. Show the picture of the 18-year-old who tried to take an officers gun and ran after assaulting him. If you want to play the race card, we can line up offenses play-for-play. So, if you REALLY want to use the “I’m black and nobody likes me, we were slaves…”, then bring it. The actual slavery descendants wouldn’t claim you for how you try to use the color of your skin to get a free pass or cry fowl when you get arrested for breaking the law. It’s just sad and stupid that you can’t act like grown up human beings. I don’t use the color of my skin to pitch a tantrum. Why should you? This is becoming less about a legal adult who assaulted an officer and more about every black person in America who ever felt like they didn’t get a pat on the back. It shouldn’t matter what color you are. What should matter is how you raise your children and how they respect society and its laws. If this man hadn’t struggled with Officer Wilson’s police-issue M&P in an attempt to shoot Officer Wilson, I could see how firing on him would have been a horrifying act. But if you try to take my gun in order to take my life, you would be lucky if I didn’t empty my clip into you. Officer Wilson had every right to fire. By the way, Officer Wilson is BLACK.
