Tanker truck fire shuts down I-65 near Warrior

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – All lanes of Interstate 65 near Warrior were shut down after an 18-wheeler tanker truck exploded Friday afternoon.

The truck was seen burning just past mile marker 279 shortly after 3 p.m.  Driver Gina Rioux sent us video of the scene from the northbound lanes as traffic crawled through the area.  Rioux reports that traffic around 4:30 p.m. traffic was backed up about 10 miles in each direction.

The tanker truck driver is reported to have escaped the fire.

State Troopers and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies are assisting Warrior firefighters at the scene.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
