UPDATE: Police have successfully concluded a standoff with an armed man at Microtel Inn and Suites just off of Shields Road

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – Huntsville Police officers and Madison County Sheriff’s deputies have successfully concluded a standoff with an armed man at the Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham on 1820 Chase Creek Row in Huntsville.

Police and Crisis negotiators have taken a white male into custody without injuries.

Huntsville Police say shortly after 6 p.m. Friday they received a call from the Microtel management stating that maintenance personnel came to a room and found a man with a gun.

Officer immediately evacuated the area and called in special teams to handle the situation. Authorities are still in the process of talking with the man inside the hotel room.

There is no one else inside the hotel room with the man, according to police.

A Huntsville Police spokesperson said the only threats the man has made have been against himself.

Police say there is no immediate concern for public safety in the area.

A few lanes of Shields Road have been shut down in this area, but the road is not closed. Police say residents are able to safely drive to and from their residences near this area.
