Famous ape that befriended Robin Williams learns of actor’s passing

It’s no secret Robin Williams touched countless people with his work, but did you know he also befriended a famous ape?

Koko is known for understanding sign language. She was profiled by PBS and appeared on the cover of National Geographic.

Williams asked to visit Koko in 2001 and the two shared a special connection.

Her caretaker said Koko sensed something was wrong earlier this week from listening to phone calls.  That’s when news of Williams’ apparent suicide broke.
