Killen, Ala. - (WHNT) There wasn't much expected of the Lions in 2013, but Brooks still made the playoffs. Jerry Hill always seems to find a way to get the most out of his team in Killen, and he is expecting big things this year. "We've got some good hard nosed kids who are very coach-able," Hill said before practice this week.

He's most excited about opening up the offensive playbook this season with experience coming back. "We were sort of limited last year because we were so young with all those freshman so we'll be able to be a lot more versatile like we have in the past."

As much as coach Hill likes a dynamic offense, he's constantly preaching effort and toughness on the defensive side of the ball. Jake Whitehead will lead the charge as an inside linebacker for the Lions and needs to help fill the void left by A.J. Flippo. Flippo led the Lions and the region in tackles last season. "Our defense is looking real good right now," Whitehead told WHNT News 19's Chase Horn. "Playoffs obviously is an expectation around here. We are going to try and win the region and see how far we can go in the playoffs."

First things first, game number one on August 28th against Sheffield.
